EVENTS: Raheem DeVaughn in Concert – Thursday 4.29

Hola Fab Friends!

Soul singer Raheem DeVaughn visits Nashville on Thursday, April 28, 2010 at Limelight Entertainment Complex.

DeVaughn has been in the game for a long time and had several projects released independently. In 2005 he signed with Jive records and released the album, The Love Experience. Although his first record didn’t get him full commercial success, his music gained many fans. Personally, the song, Guess Who Loves You More, was one of my favorites. DeVaughn then released a sophomore album that gave him Grammy nominated success, Love Behind the Melody. The songs, Customer (ft R. Kelly) and Woman, put him on the radar in the soul and R&b categories. He was also an opener for Jill Scott’s tour.

His new project , Love & War Masterpeace, has critics applauding. In interviews, DeVaughn describes the project as, “. . .one half social commentary, one half love. With everything going on, it just feels like the right time for it. As a country I think we’ve made some progress, but we remain divided —it’s still poverty versus wealth and good versus evil. We’re separated by skin color and religion, politics and control over natural resources. I think of this album as a natural extension of where I am personally and where we are as a nation.”

The Love & War Masterpeace is a successful pairing of social commentary and human relations. Many times and artist has trouble blending political views and good ol‘ love songs, but DeVaughn stayed true to his heart and gives the listener what they need to hear and what they love to listen to. Just like life, good and bad continue to happen around you, but you must go on.

Tickets are available at, PhatKaps Boutique, Studio 615, Haddox Pharmacy, and Slon Mogulz.
