The TREND: 5 Items you need in your closet for Fall 2013

Oh Give Thanks . . . for fashion

Did the summer just BREEZE by or WHAT!? One day I’m wishing for 90 degree weather, the next I’m looking longingly at my leggings and over the knee boots.

It’s safe to say, I’m ready for fall! Of course, we still have a bit of time before the weather is perfect for richly colored layered sweater, warm hats, and big cups of Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte (seriously, I’m feenin for a Pumpkin Spice Latte – it’s like crack!) – but let’s prep for fall with 5 essential items. Check it out:

Shop for midi skirts on

The MIDI Skirt: Listen, don’t say I didn’t tell you. The midi-skirt (skirt that hits just below the knee) made an appearance this summer and it’s ready to roll for winter. Whether a full circle skirt or a fitted pencil, you need to have one in your closet for Fall 2013. Although, you favorite retailers will have plenty for sale, hit the thrift stores for vintage versions with interesting fabrics.

Jason Wu Pre-Fall

Anything Emerald Green – If you didn’t know, emerald green is the Pantone color of the year; last year was Tangerine Tango (source). For Fall 2013 make sure to add some emerald green to you closet via your clothes,  accessories, or make-up. I’m vying for a pair of emerald green wedge heels or a fab over-sized sweater. Oooh – so lush!

Michael Kors Fall 2013

All Leather EVERYTHING! – No seriously, EVERYTHING! We laughed at Kim & Kanye as they traipsed through the streets in leather leggings, peplums, t-shirts, etc – but they were ahead of the curve. Leather looks and embellishments are the rage this fall. What will set you ahead of the crowd, a leather piece that’s out of the ordinary – leather jean shorts with textured leggings? Hmm!

Giuseppe Zanotti Pyramid Lace-Up Booties

The short bootie – Fall 2013 is the season of the short bootie. Best believe you will see booties in every department store and magazine. In all shapes, colors, and materials, your’re bound to find a style that suits you. My fave, flat studded booties paired with a maxi skirt – casual cool!

The Big Over-sized Coat – Every season we have a flashback to the 80’s. During the summer it was about neon accents. For the fall it’s about the over-sized coat – think The Breakfast Club. These big oversized, yet structured garments will keep you warm and on trend, while the minimalist details hekp bring attention to other style points on your outfit.
So there it is – I hope you’ve been inspired to add a couple new items to your wardrobe for Fall 2013.
Tell me, what are you excited about adding to the closet?
