My FALL 2017 Pinterest Board

Who else is updating their #FALL style board on Pinterest! Check out my vibe! What are you trying to look like this fall?

I have to admit, I looked cute this summer, but with changing jobs, I didn’t live my BEST style life. My funds were kinda low, real talk. But, you know I’m coming with the amazingness this Fall! Also, Fall is when I flourish. I’m from the northeast, we crush fall fashion! We love layers! We delight in artisanal autumn awesomeness! And, we will not deny our love for pumpkin spiced anything!

So check out my mood board for fall. My Pinterest is where I go to create seasonal vibes! Let me know what your feeling for Fall 2017!

#WhatToWear: Summer Errands

When I saw these platform mules from Strategia, I knew I had to create a look! These mules are giving me UPDATED late 90’s vibes and I am HERE for it. I love a shoe that can give you a bit of height, but still be comfortable. So, I came up with this cute summer look to inspire you to run your errands in style!

I don’t know about you, but I ALWAYS end up running into someone I know (or someone I want to know better) when I’m looking busted and disgusted. So, I’ve been trying to make an effort to look a bit cuter when I’m out & about. I’m going to take my own advice, and find a similar look like the one above. You know I’ll post OOTD’s on my IG and on the blog!

MY STYLE: Fashion and Fat Arms

I know this is a weird title for an Outfit of the Day (#OOTD) post but I thought I’d address some stuff as it pertains to fashion and fatness. A couple of months ago I posted the look I wore for the Nashville Symphony Ball. As always, I post my looks on my instagram and wait for the likes and comments to roll in. Usually, my comments thread is pretty positive. But as the popularity grows, I see new followers and new commentary. On this day, when I posted my symphony story, someone made a snide comment about my fat arms.

Initially, I was a bit shocked. Like I said, I hadn’t received negative comments on my photos. That day was a different day. After my initial shock, I thought about it – people are so used to plus-size women covering up. EVEN in this day of plus-size model Tess Holiday, getting national and international modeling jobs, people still feel ‘some kinda way’ about big women being okay with her big-ness. Truthfully, I used to feel the same way . . .

This week most of us our still on vacation, celebrating the holidays. This is the first time, in a long time, that Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa have fallen on the same week. We are out here celebrating all the things, and New Year’s Eve isn’t here yet! So, I created this cute holiday look as inspiration for your visiting trips.

Mixing patterns is still a thing, and we can rock this trend into 2017. Try mixing stripes and animal print for a cute casual look. If you are traveling, switch out the pumps for flats. Either way, try something new while on vacation.

Would you rock this look?

Because Trump won . . .

What happens now that Trump has won?

Today is the day I usually post a OOTD or style post. But, today doesn’t feel right. While 50% of the country is celebrating, the other side is truly in mourning. I’m sure you’ve been on social media. You’ve seen the data, the scriptures, the memes, and even the think pieces. Everyone is trying to wrap their head around what some say is an impending doom.

Since this is my space, I’m able to admit, this is a scary time. No amount of pretty clothes, fun events, or interesting brand partnerships can distract from the fact that so many WOMEN voted for a man who doesn’t care about their interests. The same women I’ve vowed to help with my plus-size style posts, my social media campaigns to encourage acceptance, and teaching classes about personal style are the some of the same women who voted with a man who doesn’t care. It hurts to think about, but I won’t stop my mission.

I’ve always wanted to make someone feel better about themselves. I know that some people don’t like me because I’m fat, black, and a woman. No matter how much I do or how much I want to help, they still won’t like me. That’s okay. I’m never gonna stop helping women, even though some of those women may not want my help. Because, if I stop helping, who will lead the change. Right. So, even though Trump one, that doesn’t mean that you stop doing what God has called you to do!

So what do you do right now? Well, feel your feelings! I wrote this on Facebook:

What now? Feel your feelings. Make sure you go through the full stages of grief. Really. This hurts. This is a wound that needs surgery, not just a band-aid. This is an injury that will take 4 yrs of rehab. It will hurt EVERYDAY but you will work EVERYDAY – don’t ever stop working. The song says, “nobody told me the road would be easy …” This will be the hardest recovery you will ever accomplish. You will hate your doctors and nurses. But when you heal. You will be stronger. But right now – it’s just an open wound and it hurts real bad.

So, I’ll be back to my regularly scheduled program . . .  soon. Right now, I’m gonna feel my feels.

MY STYLE: Bring it back around . . .

Hi, my name is Melissa and I repeat clothes! Whew! I’m so happy to let you know that. Nah, but for real, it’s okay to repeat clothes. Don’t let social media fool you, us fashion bloggers find new looks to rock every week, but between posts – we rock the same stuff. Let me tell you about the remix . . .

Dress & Shoes: Torrid (no longer avail), Bag: Styles Boutique (no longer avail)

If you’ve been following me for any amount of time, you should know that this dress is my FAVORITE dress and I’ve worn it on this blog no less than three time. Check out the first time I wore this dress, click here. About five years ago, I purchased this dress for my birthday. I wore it for two birthdays in a row and two OOTD photo shoots. Every time I wear this dress I get compliments. You know why? I change accessories!

I’ve worn this dress in the winter with tights and a long-sleeve shirt. I’ve worn it in the spring with a denim jacket and sneakers. And, now I’m wearing it as it was intended; as a sundress with heels. Each look gave the dress a different vibe.I even decided to revisit the colorblock trend. Listen, getting dressed is just an experiment with different elements of style.

You may have worn an outfit one way, but use your Googles, to see how someone rocked the look the way think you’d want to rock it. I’m not a fan of buying clothes just to buy new stuff. I like to get MAXIMUM usage out of items. You have to fight against your fear of people judging you. Most of the time, people will compliment you because you are stylish. Believe me!

So, take it from me. Try rocking your look again. Add some different jewelry, a diff shoe, or add a cardigan – you’ll never know the outcome. ALSO, when you rock a look that you’ve already worn, you are already comfortable. You already know how it’s gonna fit. You will feel so at ease because you know this look already looks good! Give it a try, take a picture, and get your life. Try the REMIX!
