I never thought I’d see the day, but Kimora Lee Simmons has stepped down (or been asked to leave, details are bit fuzzy) as the face, creative force, owner of Baby Phat. On Friday night, Kimora tweeted the news to her fans and said she would be focusing more on her other business ventures: KLS, Kouture by Kimora, and Fabulosity, her JCPenney juniors’ line (source).
When reading her tweets, you’ll see that Kimora is a bit upset about the split, but if you are fan, you know that Kimora has more than one hand in the pudding and she will probably re-invent herself as something more fabulous than anything we have seen. In addition, being friends with other supermodel/moguls (Tyra Banks is her best friend and godparent to her daughters), you know she has the creativity to persevere in this situation. Plus, she will continue her reality show on E! Network Television as well as her other venture with Hello Kitty.
The saddest part about this story is that there will be no Baby Phat fashion show this year at New York Fashion Week. I always dreamed that when I get a chance to go to Fashion Week, I would get to see the Baby Phat show. You have to admit, Kimora bought the fun back to the runway just like Betsy Johnson does with her runway shows. Plus, it was the place to see all the black celebs. So I decided to assemble some pictures from the years past. Farewell Kimora, can’t wait to see what you do next!
