READ THIS: VIBE Magazine turns 20 – releases 3 awesome covers

Janelle Monae and Robin Thicke cover the #NEWRULES of R&B portion

Oh my gosh! VIBE Magazine is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary! I feel old! I remember receiveing the first issue! Yes, I’m an old head in this hip-hop game. But even as a teen, I knew Vibe was something special.

This full-sized glossy magazine gave a spotlight to rap, hip-hop, and R&B in a way that other magazines (at the time) didn’t. Spearheaded by Quincy Jones, Vibe magazine became the voice of a generation and gave a voice to celebrities that mainstream media often overlooked.

For the 20th anniversary, Vibe released three iconic covers to celebrate 20 years of superb music coverage: Janelle Monae & Robin Thicke, Daft Punk & Pharrell, and J. Cole & Nas. Each cover and artist represents a different aspect of Hip-hop, R&B, and Pop music. The covers show the transition of these sub-genres and the aspect the artists have on their listeners.
