BEST DRESSED: MET GALA 2016

So, all the celebs got together and dressed weirdly for us to judge them from our couches – LOL! Naw, but the MET Gala is an important fashion event that takes place on the first Monday in May.  From the The New York Times:
Officially, it’s the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit, a black-tie extravaganza held the first Monday in May to raise money for the Costume Institute (a.k.a. the fashion department), the only one of the Met’s curatorial departments that has to fund itself.
Told ya, it’s important. In the fashion world, we need to see these amazing designs be shown in the outside world. Since us regular people don’t get to wear (or see) these types of designs, the MET Gala is a great place to see creative designs in action. The importance of creativity in fashion is the reason why trends exist and the reason why we can have the choice to wear the type of clothes we want to wear. It starts at events like this.
So, let’s get to who dressed the best and worst. This year’s theme was ‘Fashion in the Age of Technology’. So, expect to see looks inspired by technology, computers, and digital fashion. Who got it right?

First up, Idris Elba, co-chair for last night’s event. He wore this awesomely tailored Tom Ford suit, with tails. I mean, he’s already a gorgeous man. This well-tailored suit only made him look better. I don’t exactly know how his suit worked with the theme of the event, but I do know he look doggone good.
Next up is Zendaya. When has this girl NOT slain the red carpet? Zendaya was rocking this gorgeous Michael Kors hand embroidered gown. The gown took more than a month to create. Michael and Zendaya said the wanted to give her the semblance of adroid robot realness. They nailed it!

Some didn’t like Beyonce’s Givenchy latex creation. This hand-beaded, poof sleeved, creation bought on lots of commentary. I loved it! The latex is a nod to using alternative materials in creating designs. Also, it’s kinda sexy!

Say what you want about those Jenner-Kardashians, but they know how to wear some gowns. For her first time at the gala, Kylie Jenner wore a Balmain special edition beaded dress. She just killed it.

Model, Gigi Hadid and her new boyfriend, Zayn Malik, hit the theme on the head. Zayn rocked these amazing Tommy Hilfiger looks embellished with robotic appliques. This was the couple’s debut on the red carpet and they looked great!

This was one of my FAVORITE looks of the night, Jourdan Dunn sporting this liquid metal Balmain. Also, her silver bob cut was so fashion-forward. Does it get any better?

Willow and Jaden Smith are one of my favorite sibling duo. Willow, who is the new face of Chanel and Jaden who is the new face of Louis Vuitton, rocked the red carpet with 90’s glamour; bold jackets, pinched pants, and big details.

Lala Anthony rocked this swarovski crystal, hand embrodered cape dress. I think it was one of the most overlooked looks of the night, but Lala looked great.

Kendall Jenner and Cindy Crawford went all metallic in these Calvin Klein creations. Each dress was a blend of hand craftsmanship and technology as the design were digitally created but the sequins were hand laid. WOW!

So, what were your favorite looks from last night’s event. Let me know in the comments section!
