If you’ve been following me on Instagram for any amount of time, you’ve heard me complain about my struggle brows! Girl, my brows are so thin, sparse, and struggly that I hate stepping out the house without filling them in. I used to go to a professional brow tech, but now she only specializes in Microblading (Shala is the best brow tech in the south, go to her!) However, I’m on a budget. Microblading isn’t on the menu, so I did the next best thing, brow tinting

I did my googles and came up on several brow tinting Youtube tutorials that gave me the confidence to MAYBE make a mistake that will last 7-10 days. Then I hopped over to Amazon Prime, ordered the Godfroy Tint Kit for spot coloring. WARNING: Use this kit at your own risk. Technically, it’s not for brows, but . . . Anyway, after I watched my share of videos, prayed to God, and read the directions in the box, I was ready to go.
Brow-tinting is a way of depositing dye on the brow (and skin) to achieve a filled and full look. It’s great for people with thin & sparse brow (like my brows) and for people who hve grey hairs in their brows. The deposit usually lasts 7-10 days and fade gradually as you wash your face. So, let’s get started.
Excuse these non-filtered photos, but I have to give y’all the REAL-DEAL!
STEP 1: Starting with a brow shaper blade, I attempted to clean up some stray hairs and created my deserved shape.
STEP 2: Then, using concealer, I outlined the brow shape I was striving for. Like I said, brow tinting stains the skin and the brow hairs. So, you can create the illusion of a fuller brow, by allowing the die to sit on the skin. The concealer helps to make sure your outline is precise.
STEP 3: I mixed the items in the kit. It’s SUPER easy. Each capsule contains more than enough dye to do your brows, especially if your brows are as thin as my brows. You break open the capsule, add in the developer (about 1/4 teaspoon) and mix until creamy. The Godfrey kit comes with an application brush that was great for applying the product.
STEP 4: Now it’s time to apply the tint. GIRL! It will look REAL crazy. The dye is extremely dark after you apply it. Don’t get scared. The kit says to keep the mix on the area for about 2-3 mins. But after watching various YouTube videos, especially those featuring women of color, I decided to leave the dye on a bit longer.

STEP 5: Wipe the area clean with a damp cloth. IT WILL BE DARK. But day two is the day you are going for. The results looking pretty much natural, and I won’t have to fill in my brows for about a week or so. I’m HAPPY!
So, that’s my DIY for tinting my brows. The only thing I may do differently is use a brow stencil. My free-hand brow shaping is a bit wonky and not too precise. If you want that crisp look, get a set of brow stencils.
So, how do you wear your brows? Fill-in, brow tint, microblade, or nothing at all? Let me know in the comments.
