Last night Kanye West premiered his music video/performance art piece/movie, ‘Runaway’. The piece featured new music by Kanye and featured model, Selita Ebanks, as a phoenix and Kanye’s love interest. The piece premiered on several cable stations: MTV, BET, and MTV2. The film featured iconic symbolism of love, loss, redemption, and self-awareness. Afterward, Kanye answered questions, live, as the fans tweeted him.
The costume design in this film was phenomenal:
- Selita’s nude, yet, not so nude bird costume and ethereal make-up.
- Kanye’s many variations on the dinner/evening suits.
- Ballerina’s performing in black leotards and tutus.
- Guests at dinner party all dressed in modern white ensembles.
Th film credits showed that Kanye collaborated with Phillip Lim and theater costume designer Martin Izquierdo (famous for designing the Victoria’s Secret wings). The wardrobe and costume concept meshed well with the storyline of Kanye’s vision.
Now, I’m sure, many were confused about the themes of the film, but aside from the the many meanings fans and critics will have about this piece, no one can doubt the modern style of this film. Check it out the full length video below:
