TREND ALERT: Fascinators and Headpieces

Guys, I have wedding fever. The Royal Wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William has me all in a tizzy. Lots of people on my Twitter feed are being all non-chalant about the Royal Wedding, saying that “People get married everyday. What makes this so special?” Well, in a world where marriage is frowned upon and people have sex as if it’s a handshake, we need to see the pomp and circumstance of love.
Ok, let me step off my soapbox and get on with the topic: Headpieces.
Carrie: I put a bird in my hair.
Miranda: Is that what that was? I thought it was a feather?
Carrie: It was a bird.
I’ve been in love with dramatic headpieces since I watched the first Sex and the City movie where Carrie (pictured above) wore a peacock inspired headpiece with her gown.
With the Royal Wedding only days away, the fashion world has set it’s sights on British fashion. Future princess, Kate Middleton has become known for her fascinators (the proper term for these elaborate headpieces). Facinators are usually worn in addition to extravagant hats during British wedding ceremonies, social functions, and Derby events (such as Steeplechase).

The premiere maker of Kate’s fascniators is Vivien Sheriff. On the Today Show this morning, Vivien shared that she and her company have created fascinators for members of of Kate’s family including Kate’s mother and sister.
