MY LIFE: Scared to start again

I’m sorry (but not sorry) I haven’t written a new blog post in two weeks. I needed a break. Plus, I’m always telling my Blogger Baes to take breaks, but I never take a break. What kind of advice is that. But I’m back and I got a good topic this week: WEIGHT-LOSS!

I was scared to write this post because I’ve written this type of post about 50 times. It’s the post where I declare I’m gonna get fit (or snatched, steal-yo-daddy sized, skinny!). I’m scared to write this post because I’ve accomplished this goal a couple times and I’ve failed plenty more. I’m scared to start this journey again because I’m scared I’ll fail. But I’m tired of hoping to wake up smaller and more fit. I know I need to try again. I’m worth it.

As an adult, the smallest number I’ve seen on the scale was 297 lbs. Now, I know a couple of y’all edges just flew off because that’s still considered ‘big’. I mean, that’s bigger than some football players. But, the way my body (pear shaped) and my height (6ft tall) works, it looked GOOD. As a plus-sized woman and BLOGGER, I always feel pressure to talk about my weight. Either we should be talking about losing weight or talking about how happy we are to be big. What if you are stuck in the middle: a little bit happy, a little bit scared, and a little bit over-it in general? That’s me.

See, I’ve been a BIG GIRL all my life and I’ve never seen a day where I’ve been considered THIN or SKINNY. Came in this world at almost 10lbs and 21″. I was taller than most classmates AND teachers until high-school; thank God those boys started to grow! Then when I got to college, I actually lost a bunch of weight. I was poor, hungry, and I worked a lot. I came home and my family was so proud of my weight-loss – not much mention about those good grades (more on that later). Then I graduated and got a job: free corporate lunch and spending money. I got big again. Biggest I’d ever been (until now). To my luck, I found an amazing job at the YMCA. That job afforded me free gym membership and access to the internet. I was printing off recipes and working out five times a week, sometimes doing two-a-days. Girl, I was FIT!!!!! I could see two ab muscles!

Y’all! Snatched!

Then, my grandma died, I started grad school, and I broke up with a long time ‘on again, off again’ boyfriend (This was the base of Jack & Ahlia‘s childhood story). I was stressed and crushed. I gained the weight back. Partly because grad school was so time consuming and I was, yet again, struggling with money. But, wanting to look good at graduation, I snapped back into gym life and lost a nice bit of weight.

Fast forward to now, Yup, I’m big again. I’m 5lbs bigger than I’ve ever been! Whew just typing that gave me the vapors. My clothes fit weird, my face is chunky, and wearing heels makes my knees hurt. In the past three years I’ve gone through a lot: death of a partner, leaving a job, horrendous money issues, loss of friends, and general depression. Still, I’ve taken these photos, wrote this blog, and posed for my life. Seriously, if it wasn’t for the blog and you guys, my readers, I’d be in a PIT of despair.

As the title states, I was scared to start again. Like really. For the most part, I’m a pretty confident girl, but even I can see the surprise on the faces of people who haven’t seen me in a long time. That, “you look nice, but wow you’re much bigger than I thought!” look. I saw it when i went home for Christmas. I saw it when I went to recent fashion event. I’m tired of seeing that face. I’m ready to be comfortable in my body. The only thing that helps is knowing, if I did it before, I can do it again.

I’m turning 40 in June. In my mind I want to take these epically gorgeous 40th Birthday Photos. Now, I know science and math, it’s just April, no way I’ll be at my goal weight by my birthday. But I want to walk into my birthday month feeling strong and consistent. I may be down 20lbs or just 10lbs. Either way, I’ll be back on the wagon and feeling better. I know I can do this!

Are you starting a weight loss, fitness, or health journey? Let me know how you feel about starting again. I’ll share updates on my socials and I may even bring back my YouTube channel! Either way, I’ll keep you posted. I’m not scared anymore!

Oh yeah, I already have my plan. I know what to eat and how to work out. Different plans work for different people. I know you want to leave your miracle plan in the comments but I’m GOOD on that. I’ve consulted my doctor and done my googles.

Hello December! I barely made it!

Hello December! And hello FAB family! Thank you so much for being patient with me. I’ve had some major changes in my life so I had to step away for a moment. I’m still adjusting to my new work life and family upheaval, so I cant promise you new posts every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, but I can promise you some cool stuff at least one a week.

Now, I do have some cool stuff coming up! Your girl secured some brand partnerships that I’m sure your gonna love! Just let the contracts get signed and you’ll see the fruits of my labor. Oh yeah, I got some cool photo shoots in the bag too. And finally, the BOOK! The book is done and it will launch this month! Lawd!

Oh, yeah, it’s the holiday season! I’m feeling that Christmas-y but I must celebrate. I mean, it’s the most wonderful time of the year! And, things could be worse, right?

So, even though some things are still a bit wonky, I’m working through my challenges. I have faith that life is gonna get better and I’ll keep a smile on my face until that time!

Hello November – FIVE ways to deal with change!

When I took the photo above, I had no idea how quickly my life would change. In one month, I started working again, had to help a family member, and took a drastic hit to my bank account. Granted, I knew I’d be taking a new job, but I thought taking on said job would allow me to have a better financial cushion. November came through and said, ‘Naw Girl’. So, with that, I had to deal with abrupt CHANGE!

Hello October! Back to Blog Basics

Um, Hello October! How’d you sneak up on me? I’m happy to report that it was actually CHILLY last night. Oh yes! Fall weather is on the way to Tennessee. With the return of cool weather, that means less time out in the streets and fashion events start to die down as the holiday season gears up. This change allows me more time to focus on quality content.

It’s back to blog basics over here! I’m proud that I was able to put out FOUR videos on the VLOG this month, with MORE to come. I’ve posted three times a week on the website. And, I’ve successfully given y’all weekly newsletters! Listen, don’t even discount my posts on INSTAGRAM; I’ve been giving you LOOKS! So, expect more quality coming from FabGlance! I’ve finally found my grove and I’m not turning back.

HelloOctober-fabglance2

So, what can you expect this month>

  • HBCU Homecoming Events – So, it’s my school’s Homecoming month and the start of college homecoming events across the US. You know I got a homecoming lookbook coming for you! Check out last year’s looks!

Just make sure to read the blog to see what’s popping! Wanna partner with me? Check out my PARTNER PAGE then send me an email! I’d love to share your product/event with my readers.
  • 100 Days of Fitness – Yeah, I talked about it last month. Even made it to 14 days. Then, I had oral surgery, a bit of financial distress, and just overall stress, so I stopped. BUT you can always dust yourself off and try again! Let’s do it!
  • #ONEMILLIONFOLLOWERS – Yeah, I’m still on that! I’m on a quest to get One Million Followers across all social media platforms (combined)! Will you be my friend on Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, and YouTube?
    • I’m just shy of 10K across all platforms – lets get me 1000 more this month!

So, that’s what’s happening on Fabglance.com! What are your goals for the month of October? Let’s talk about it in the comments section!

MY STYLE: Pre-Fall CHIC with Simply Be

We are in that wacky time between summer and fall. In fashion, we call this pre-fall. In my closet, we call this WAR! Living in Tennessee, but being from Massachusetts, I’m always at war with my fall sensibilities. I’m the person who is happy that Pumpkin Spice is back, ready to wear all the layers, and waiting for the first bonfire invite. But, even I know that we won’t get those TRUE fall temperatures until late October, maybe even November. Sigh.

That’s why, when I was contacted by Simply Be to review some of their plus-size looks, I was excited. Simply Be has an EXPANSIVE collection of items. Like, dude, theirs 100’s of looks! Their range of sizes are from 8-28, which is AWESOME! Also, their comment section, under each item, is very informative. The shoppers do a good job of sharing if an item worked for them, it’s quality, and value.

Below, I share the three pieces I received from Simply Be. This is a sponsored post, but I’m gonna keep it ALL the way real with you. I hate to waste money, and I’d hate you to waste money too. Lets get it:

MY STYLE: One last white dress for the season

I’ve been blogging for like 17 million years, so I have about 49,000 posts about Wearing White After Labor Day. So, when I realized I hadn’t worn this CUTE dress from Ashley Stewart, it inspired me to write about the topic again. So, are we or are we NOT wearing white after Labor Day? Let’s discuss.

MY STYLE: Do It Afraid!

Hola Fab Family! Welcome! Stretch out and walk around; do you see anything you like? Why, yes, yes we do have a new site design! And is it FABULOUS! The whole experience is a metaphor in how my life is going right now: DO IT, DO IT AFRAID, You’ll be ok! So this week’s MY STYLE post is all about how, even with fear you can do something fab!

For the last year I have been lamenting on how to make FABGLANCE.COM more fabulous. Truth be told, my coins are limited and all the great web designers I called, wanted BIG BUCKS (no whammies).  I tried to redo the design on my own, but my mind would freeze. I didn’t have the patience to take eight years worth of content to a new spot. If  you blog, you know that migrating content is a coin toss. You could lose EVERYTHING, jack up your analytics, and/or end up killing everyone around you.
