CHAT | Come get your BOYFRIEND!

I’m loving using my new YouTube channel to share different sides of myself. Also, I’d like to thank you for your comments on my videos. Today’s video is my new CHAT feature. Sometimes, I just want to talk to you, and using the written word is not enough. Let me know if you like it.

I know I’m cute . . . but I don’t want your guy!

Today’s topic is relationships! Specifically, people attempting to get out of their their relationship … specifically your boyfriend being all up in my DMs and your mom’s DMs, and my friend’s DMs! I’m just tired of guys trying to create side situations with nice single girls. So, let’s talk about it!

So many times, people ask me, “Are you dating?” and the answer is YES, but with some frustration. I know there are great guys out there, but the corny guys are making it REAL bad for y’all. Seriously, I’m not here to be a side-chick. I want a fun, healthy, and amazing relationship with a great guy who doesn’t sneak away, sending janky texts to other women. And, you should want that too. You don’t need a guy treating you like you’re LESS THAN! Girl, you are the full package!

Take a look at my video and tell me what you think? Have you been cheated on? How did it feel? Have you cheated? Let’s talk about!

What to Wear: Let’s talk about WHITE BOOTS

I never thought that I’D be saying this, but, we gotta let WHITE BOOTS cook for fall/winter. Man, listen! I always thought white boots looked like majorette boots. But, lately I’ve been seeing the celebs and IG influencers rocking white boots and it’s making me think I can give them some room for the season. So, I had to go to my polyvore page to play around with looks featuring white boots. After I created these looks, I think I’m sold, you should get some white boots this year. Let’s get into it:

VLOG | Nashville Parade of Homes 2017

Last week, I was invited by California Closets Nashville as a VIP Guest to the Nashville Parade of Homes! The Parade of Homes is an annual event that allows guests to see the latest home design trends created by the regions best builders and interior designers. California Closets created a $45,000 closet for one of the homes, and were the first to view the creation. Y’all! These homes were more than amazing. They were dream-worthy.

The tour definitely gave me some GOALS to think about. I want to build a home so that I can host my friends and family. The Nashville Parade of Homes introduced me to interior design trends I hadn’t seen before: Bunk rooms, Digital Spaces, and Embroidered Walls! Can someone just give me one of these houses, fully furnished? No? I gotta work for it? UGH!

Well, take a look at my Million Dollar Home Tour VLOG from last week’s visit. Make sure to comment, share, and subscribe if you haven’t!

FAB REVIEWS: Private Label 4C Natural Clip-In Extensions

I’m back again with the FAB REVIEW! This time, I’d like to thank the team at Private Label Extensions for asking me to review their NEW line of kinky clip-in extensions. Back in March, I reviewed Private Label’s regular extensions with a full installation. Listen, I’m a weave GIRL. Give me all the bundles. But sometimes I don’t have the money or time for a full installation and I figured out that CLIP-IN extensions are the way to go!

How come no one told me about getting some REAL clip-in extensions! I been sleeping. I’ve made extensions on my own, to fill out a bangs or add a bit of volume. But, to have a whole head of extensions, this is new to me and I LOVE IT. Plus, Private Label Extensions are literally the BEST HAIR I’ve ever used (and I’ve used ALOT of hair). Last time I reviewed them, I had only good things to say, and we are back on it!

WHAT TO WEAR: Tracee Ellis Ross JCPENNEY Holiday Collection

People! This is not a drill! The most stylish woman on TV, Tracee Ellis Ross (Joan from Girlfriends and Bow from blackish) is releasing a HOLIDAY FASHION COLLECTION with JCPenney! Get your coins together, because just like Rihanna’s FENTY BEAUTY collection, all the girls will line up for this!

As I type, Tracee is releasing looks from the upcoming, November 12th, drop. So far we’ve seen four looks. The company and Tracee have delcalred these pieces as affordable and SIZE INCLUSIVE! That’s right kids, from a small to a 3xl, you can have a bit of Tracee’s style in your life!

Tracee’s style is well documented. She’s appeared in all types of magazines and continues to slay the red carpet … and when she’s just going to get coffee. She dresses her body well, mixes hi/lo, vintage, and trends, plus she has curves and isn’t afraid to show them. She’s a perfect collaborator for JCPenney, a company that was once America’s store for home and fashion.

Since she’s working with JCPenney, I’m hoping this won’t sell-out immediately. But it is a holiday capsule collection which means its available for a limited time. November 12th is a month away, prices range from $9-$75. I can’t wait to see how everyone styles their Tracee looks! There’s something for everyone’s style: boho, chic, trendy, and classic. I’m going up for that sparkle dress! Yes honey!

Follow Tracee and JCPenney on instagram for exclusive photos and more details.

VLOG | Convos with Tisha Campbell

A couple week’s ago I attended an inspiring event at Lipscomb University. Actress, Tisha Campbell, was invited to the university to speak on her career. Many know her as Gina, from the TV show Martin, but Tisha Campbell has a long and historic career in Hollywood. She’s been in the entertainment industry for more than 40 years, winning her first talent competition at the age of  seven.

The entertainment media studies department, headed by Professor Natasha Johnson, completes a class assignment that involves planning and producing a community event that invites a celebrity to the city. The students did an amazing job, even when the guest list moved to more than 200 attendees. It was so exciting to visit the campus and listen to Tisha talk about her career, motivations, and inspiration. Of course I had to vlog it! I even give you a glimpse into my life with some fun commentary:

FAB REVIEWS: FORM Beauty

Last month, the team at FORM Beauty selected me to become a product ambassador. I was so excited to try these products because I’ve only heard amazing reviews. At the same time, I was hesitant because the Form Beauty system is kinda expensive – and that’s been the biggest complaint. However, the following review will help you understand why Form Beauty is a good deal. Yes, it’s a great deal! Let go!

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 10.18.22 AM

When I was asked to be an ambassador, the first thing the team wanted me to do was take a survey to assess which Form products would work best with my hair type AND my hair routine. Many of you know I run the natural hair blog, Natural in Nashville (currently on hiatus), so I’m used to trying products that make big promises with no return. I love my natural hair but I hate that it gets SO dry, tangles easily, and shrinks as soon as I hit a piece of humidity. For those concerns, I tend to keep my hair in braids and protective crochet styles.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 10.19.57 AM

After I took the 10 minute survey, I was presented with a list of Form Beauty products specialized for my hair type and situation.  Even though I love my cute curls, I’m a braid girl all day. Give me some bundles or some crochet and I’m ready! The key to being someone who wears weave and braids often is to make sure your hair is healthy UNDERNEATH your installation. If you get scared to take out your weave because your hair looks like ‘who did it and what for’ then you are doing natural hair ALL WRONG.

My first package from the Form Beauty team included the TWIST Styling Cream ($29) and the Multitask Leave-In Lotion ($32). I was immediately attracted to the Leave-In lotion. It’s a lotion in a specialized spray bottle. The product comes out in a fine mist so it distributes amazingly well. When I used it on my hair I was instantly in love. The smell of the Form Beauty products is amazing. The found the perfect balance … not floral but not heavy. If your guy has longer hair, he could use it too and not smell like a florist shop.

The next week I was ready to take the plunge. I washed, conditioned and then I blow dried my hair. I used the Twist Styling Creme to do a two-strand twist. Y’all! It came out so bomb! But the real test is if I could get SECOND DAY hair!

fabglance-formbeauty-2dayhair

Second Day Hair! Yup! It passed the second day hair test! My hair was super moisturized, not greasy, kept its shape and felt so soft. I used a couple pumps of the leave in, to separate yesterday’s coils and wah-la! My hair was ready to rock. I’m totally in love with this styling system and I can’t wait to try the cleansers and conditioners.

So, are the Form Beauty products worth the cost? Albeit, they are expensive, it’s a QUALITY product. Also, my hair is about shoulder length now, but it’s thick. So, I didn’t have to use as much product to get the best results. Also, they have a subscription service and the product is available in Sephora. So, you don’t have to worry about running out in the middle of wash day. Oh yeah, and it’s a BLACK OWNED company! Yes! That’s the most exciting part. A black owned company working hard to help women with textured hair! I’m excited to support.

So, would you try FORM Beauty? Have you tried it? What’s your thoughts? Let’s discuss in the comments.

Oh yeah, I got a video coming soon on how I achieved my up-do! You know I go you!

MOTIVATION: Not for Free!

As a creative freelancer, the talk of money is very sensitive. Creative folks are always discussing our need for money, but very few work toward establishing a set scale that will keep the bills paid. Consider your favorite creative person, and please understand, we don’t do this for free! From filmmakers, to writers & bloggers, to style gurus, creative freelancers, like myself, are the MOST underpaid employees in the workforce. (source). Guys, we need to ask for what we are worth and don’t be afraid to stand our ground.

I’ll be the first to say that I don’t ask for what I’m worth. That’s a BIG problem for me. You can reflect on last week’s MOTIVATION post – not asking for enough money is ANOTHER reason why I’m not as successful. Our society makes it difficult to ask for what your worth because we are so used to getting paid less. Even when I had my corporate job, I was always afraid to ask for a raise, when I KNEW I deserved it. However, if I don’t think I’m worth it, how can I make YOU a believer. Stop letting people book two-hour ‘pick my brain’ sessions for the price of a $5 coffee! You are worth more!

As a blogger and personal stylist, the info I provide isn’t necessary for daily living. You can go about your life NOT knowing the name of Beyonce’s latest bag of choice (It’s a custom Louis Vuitton), what to wear for your 20th Class Reunion (click here) or understand why using proper lighting for your selfies is a big deal. But when you do need that info, from a trusted source, you come to me or one of my stylish peers. You expect that I’ll know exactly what to say. I’m your Google. You need the 10 YEARS of info stored in my brain in order to guide you on your stylish way.

Dress – ASOS, Boots – Torrid, and Bag – Jessica Simpson

Please, stop thinking a creative’s job is easy or we do this JUST because it’s a hobby. Those who are transitioning from hobby to lifestyle need MONEY to do so. Your stylist friend who helps you dress your family for your Christmas photoshoot deserves to be paid. The photographer that has to carry his gear around town in order to get the best photo deserves to be paid. The friend who is ‘helping’ you plan your wedding, deserves to be paid. The intern who is teaching how to use ‘the Instagram’ deserves to be paid. Even your homegirl, who does hair out of her kitchen, but can slang an amazing weave, deserves to be paid. And, if you don’t feel like that individual deserves to be paid, then you don’t deserve the luxury of their skills.

Since I’m about solutions, and you are about to be a better person, I’ll give you FOUR ways to compensate your favorite creative – in addition to giving them money.

  • Don’t Ask for the HOOK-UP! – Ask them their established rate before booking. Stop looking for a hook-up all the time. If the person chooses to give you the hook-up, that’s their choice. And even then, give them a tip (15%-20%).
  • FOLLOW them on Social Media – Most creatives don’t have big budgets for marketing campaigns. Most of the time, we use social media to share our work, new ideas, and sales. We need your follows, likes, and shares! It take 2.7 seconds to click that share/like button and you’ve done a lot more for people you don’t even know.
  • Spread the Word – Now that you’ve worked with your favorite creative, read her blog & it inspired you, or received the amazing photos from your shoot, it’s time to spread the word. Word of Mouth is the BEST way to support your creative friends. Don’t let those photos in your phone go to waste – show your co-workers & church members. Be the PR that we can’t yet afford.
  • Donate to the Cause – Feel weary about giving someone cash? Then ask your independent freelance friend what they need to move their business forward. Ask them if they need a finance session with an accountant. Could she need a new lens for her camera? Or something simple, like ink and paper for her printer. Oh, think outside the box . . . FREE babysitting so she can finish that song or edit that video. Think about it.

notforfree-fabglance3

For my fellow creative freelancers – let’s start knowing our worth and charging extra. For the supporters – thanks in advance for adjusting to our new rates. In the end, we just want to share our passions with you and give you amazing services, from a creative standpoint. Support us and your local creative community!

Thanks for reading!
