I had to pop in to let you know that today, July 29, 2017, is NATIONAL LIPSTICK DAY! Listen, I don’t know who comes up with the fun holidays, but I’m here for celebration. Apparently, so is MAC cosmetics! In celebration of #NationalLipstickDay, MAC is giving away a FREE full size lipstick to any customer who comes in the store, no purchase necessary! (while supplies last, participating stores only)
I love a good lipstick! Sometimes that’s all you need to make your day a bit brighter! You better RUN to your nearest MAC counter and get you a good one! Let me know which is your favorite lipstick, in the comments section.

We are well into 2017 (well like two weeks) but I know as soon as I snap my fingers, we’ll be into spring. Before I get caught up in EVERYTHING that’s happening for 2017, I wanted to step back and ask you guys what you need from Fab Glance? I’ve had the pleasure of blogging for almost eight years, and I’ve shared a bunch of stuff with you over the years. I always want to make sure I’m giving the readers what you need from the site.
Last year I was happy to share lots of experiences and events with you. I worked hard to share brands with you that you’d ACTUALLY use and shop at. Along with making sure my style posts are on point. I know it’s very important for me to show what plus size women wear while showcasing my personal style. But still . . . I feel there may be a void. So, comment below with what you NEED Fab Glance to do offer you.
Right now here’s some elements I’m bringing to the Fab Glance Experience:
- I’m working on my book, a style guide for the everyday woman
- In the late winter/early spring I want to start doing Facebook & Instagram LIVE sessions
- Summer/Fall – A plus-size style event here in Nashville (Y’all been asking for it)
- . . . an Online Boutique (shhh)
Those are some big goals for the year, but without big goals you won’t make big moves. Shoot for the stars, at least you’ll get off the ground. So, here we go. I’m gonna work hard to make 2017 and amazing year for the Fab Glance Family! I know you beleive in me, so I believe in myself.

Last week I had the honor of co-hosting the Art Institute of Tennessee’s first fashion show, Curated. I was so excited to host this wonderful event, because I know how hard the students at Art Institute have worked to make this happen. It’s been two years in the making and they did not dissapoint! Let’s get into it!
The event went down at 429 Event Space near downtown Nashville. This beautiful space has clean lines and plenty of room to create an amazing event. It was virtually perfect to host a fashion show. Everyone who walked in were wowed by the look of it. In the front, the show was held. In the back, there was an intimate shopping experience complete with a live singer.
Presenting fashions that night were Ona Rex, Van Hoang, People Like Art, and Brittany Bennett. The presentation were a mix of fall/winter and resort wear. Living in Nashville, where spring, summer, and fall, are more prominent than the cold days of winter, I could see purchasing these items and getting plenty wear out of them.

Of course, I have to shout out the wonderful graduating Seniors at Art Institute! The Fashion marketing program put on a excellent show. The crew was mentored by Connie Richardson of Nashville Fashion Week. The show was free, but all donations were given to the Nashville Fashion Forward fund. I love that the Nashville Fashion Week worked with the school. It’s important to know that fashion can come from various avenues. As we embrace this, it helps to build a bigger outlook on the amazing fashion coming out of Nashville.

Of course, if I was the host, I had to wear something amazing! I stepped away from my usual fit & flare cocktail dresses and went with something a bit more fashion forward. This caped dress I rented from Rent the Runway is an Adrianna Pappell. I absolutely LOVE this dress and I’m so happy that I stepped out of my comfort zone to wear it. I got so many compliments. It felt real nice to dress up on a school night!
Once again, I was so honored to co-host this wonderful event. I can’t wait to see what the new class will offer next year!
Nashville Fashion Week has two days left to dazzle the city with fashion and creativity. On the fifth year of this event, the committee worked hard to do what they do best: spotlight some of Nashville’s most gorgeous locations and open our eyes to the creative people who live in our city.
Day 1 started the week local designers presenting a runway show. Here we have an amazing dress from Pink Elephant by Truly Alvarenga.
Day 3 we fell in love with artist, Herb Williams, ‘Call of Couture’ crayon sculptures.
Tickets are still available: www.nashvillefashionweek.com.
I was super busy with The Blogger Girls networking event that I ALMOST forgot to post this handy “What to Wear” to Nashville Fashion Week! How could I? So, even though Nashville Fashion Week starts today with the Nigel Barker (yes, America’s Top Model guy) book signing at 4pm and the Nashville Designer’s Showcase at 7p, you’ll still have a couple hours to pull together some looks.
Below I got some inspiration for you! From casual and chic, to elegant and edgy, there a look for you. As always, click the photo for shopping information.
First up is a trendy casual look look perfect for the Nashville Shops events happening all week and the industry panels/workshops happening on Saturday morning. The trend to try with this look? PASTELS! Pastel colors are totally in for spring. You don’t have to be all ‘girly’ with pastels, this pink moto jacket and cute Louis Vuitton clutch gives balance without looking too girly.
Next up is this party inspired look great for the runway shows on Tuesday at Acme Feed & Seed and Friday’s Ready-to-Wear runway show at the Bicentennial Amphitheater. When it comes to runway shows, I like to go all out! Try a trend you wouldn’t usually try. It may be something as simple as a bold lipstick or as complex as a new (to you trend). Don’t be scared! Be fierce!
Are you like me, rushing from work to attend fashion week events? Then this look is for you! With a couple fashionable updates, you can look savvy and sophisticated. Remember, jeans work well with with this transitioning weather. Rock this look at the Accessories as Art installation on Wednesday or at the Design + Fashion show on Thursday.
Lastly, on Saturday, the Fashion Forward Gala will feature the inaugural Fashion Forward Awards honoring Clare Armistead with the Nashville Style Icon Award. This is one of the most creative galas presented in the Nashville creative community. Of course, you can get creative with your look. Check out this creative cocktail dress look. The abstract print is quite on trend for Spring – try it!
I hope to see you this week’s events. This is the fifth year of Nashville Fashion Week. The commitee has designed various events to appeal to everyone on every price level. Enjoy yourself!
It’s that time again! Derby time! If you are in the south you’ve attended a derby or steeplechase at least once. It’s a fun time to be totally over dressed to have a fancy picnic next to some horses that may be running in a circle. But for real, the horse races are super -fun, and the Tennessee Iroquois Steeplechase is no exception. Last year I got to attend the races and have lots of fun. Next time I go, I’ll definitely get my friends to come along so we can set up a big tent with lots of food.
Anyway, you came here for the clothes. What to wear to a steeplechase, derby, or horse race? I got you covered. This year, there supposed to be off and on rain showers. But don’t let that stop you. I’ve created three looks that will keep you cute and classy even in the mud!
(as always, click the pic for shopping info)
With the yucky weather, you are gonna want to take an umbrella. But no one said it has to be an ugly umbrella. Find one that matches your look and sing in the rain. And, yes, flat shoes are the name of the game. No one wants to spend the day sinking their stiletto heals in the mud.
This cute look is anchored by even more cute and bold Hunter boots. Any southern girl worth her weight in grits owns a cute pair of Hunter rain-boots. Matching your boots with a classic sundress will be great way to be comfy, cute, and race-day ready.
This is a classic derby look whether ran or shine. Never forget the hat and never be afraid to add ultra-girly details. The flat shoe, with pointed toe, will give you the look of stilettos but with more comfort.
Have fun at the races! Make sure to snap lots of pictures!
It’s always good to have one of those intimate convos about why the opposite sex act the way we do. Join author, motivational speaker, and relationship expert, Tye Coe as she host Cocktails & Conversations: Battle of the Sexes on Friday, March 14, 2014, at Lowe’s Vanderbilt Hotel.
Tye Coe’s book, Men: The 10 ComMANdments was written to help women finally break free of the misunderstandings, misinterpretations, and general confusion that comes from the dating world. On Friday, Tye will host an intimate discussion using tips and commandments from her book. I do love living in the city of Nashville. Being a music fanatic, I get so many opportunities to hear my favorite artists no matter the genre. That’s why this week is a favorite week for me. It’s Stellar Awards Week. The Stellar Awards is the first Gospel Music Awards show in the U.S., honoring Gospel Music Artists, writers, and industry professionals for their contributions to the Gospel Music Industry (source). Gospel music is a favorite of mine because I grew up going to church and gospel music was a big part of my life. When the Stellar Awards come to town, I get a chance to see and hear some of my fave gospel artists.
Stellar Award activities get started on Thursday night with a huge showcase presented by Urban Soul Cafe. Then, the rest of the weekend is a whirlwind of artist showcases, panel discussions, and a the big event, The Stellar Awards. The award show is taped at the Grand Old Opry.
As with every event, you know I had to give you soe FLY and FIERCE outfit inspirations to get you. Since the Stellar Awards celebrate gospel music, the emphasis has to be on MODESTY – I mean, it’s church music. However, just because you are modest, choosing to cover your body, doesn’t mean you can’t be STYLISH! Each of these outfit inspirations are my version of #HAUTEHoliness and #ModernModesty. Take a look:
This look combines vintage style details with modern embellishments. It’s kinda like a pin-up girl style but it’s still a fully covered look. That leather skirt is EVERYTHING and those wedge heels give you the lift you need.
This look is great for going from showcase to showcase. These removable layers and trendy heel is quite the transitional look. Can you get into those SNAKESKIN Louboutin heels? Even though I used high-end items to create this look, you can easily recreate with mid level designers.
This last look is an all around good deal for Stellar Weekend. It’s trendy yet business, you can go to church and brunch, and it has lots of flair. Please get into that silk Burberry trench! Yes, Ma’am! Even though the dress fits to your body, it’s not tight – it just shows your form. All a good deal!
So I hope these looks help you dress well for the events. Even if you don’t go to the awards show, you’ll still have fun with all the events going on this weekend. Like I said, check out Urban Soul Cafe for the HOTTEST showcases!
